Scam Alert- Individuals Identifying Themselves as Police Officers

Man Talking on the Phone

The Kenton County Sheriff’s Office has again been receiving numerous calls from citizens who are being contacted by phone by individuals identifying themselves as being with the Kenton County Sheriff’s Office or other local police agencies.

The displayed “call from” telephone number may even be the local, valid telephone number for the agency which the scammer has “hijacked” for display purposes on the phone.

The scammer is professional and very convincing that a warrant will be issued unless the potential victim purchases RETAIL CREDIT CARDS and gives that information over the phone.  The other option the scammer is suggesting, a meeting for an exchange of CASH to take care of a “warrant”.

A law enforcement officer would never call you to demand payment in order to “take care of a situation” – THIS IS A SCAM!

DO NOT ENGAGE SCAM CALLERS!  Do not give them any type of personal information nor confirm any personal information they provide to you over the phone.  Do not give them any type of payment over the phone.  Do not agree to meet them.  Hang up on them!

If you have been a victim of a SCAM please contact your local police department.  In order to report continued nuisance contacts please call the Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear, Office of Consumer Protection at 888-432-9257.
